I'm Phil Graham. I moved up to Aboyne after a working lifetime on the tools, and I've swapped the test meter for a pole and a tank of purified water. What hasn't changed is how I work: turn up when I say I will, do the job properly, and answer the phone when it rings.

Before you call
In Scotland they have to be. Under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 every window cleaner needs a licence from their local council — employed or self-employed, no exceptions — and getting one means a police check, because the job puts you round the back of people's houses looking in. Phil is licensed with Aberdeenshire Council and carries it. Ask to see it. Ask whoever else quotes you to see theirs, as well.
Because they're meant to be. The water in the tank has had everything taken out of it, so when it dries there's nothing left behind to make a spot or a streak. Ordinary tap water would leave marks — that's what dries on and makes them look worse than when you started. Leave them be and they'll dry clear on their own. Whatever you do, don't wipe them with a cloth.

No. It's all done from outside, so as long as there's access round the house you can be at work, out, or anywhere else. Gates unlocked and dogs in is all we ask.
Most houses round here settle into every four to eight weeks. Spring is the worst of it with the pine pollen, and autumn brings the leaf muck — those are the two times people notice the difference most.
Yes, and more than people expect. Panels work on light hitting the cells, so anything sitting on the glass — dust, pollen, bird muck, moss creeping in from the frame edge — is shading them. The panels are also at an angle and never get walked past, so nobody notices how bad they've got.
